By JOURNAL STAFF

The 164-unit Lightbox Apartments opened last spring at 4545 Eighth Ave. N.E. in the University District and was purchased in August by UDR of Highlands Ranch, Colorado.

UDR paid $45.26 million.

Intracorp developed the building in partnership with Resmark Apartment Living, a division of the real estate investment adviser Resmark Companies.

NK Architects designed the seven-story structure and Exxel Pacific built it. The team also included Bush Roed & Hitchings, civil engineer; Yu & Trochalakis, structural engineer; Pressler Engineering, mechanical engineer; PanGEO, geotechnical engineer; Ground Support, shoring; AES, electrical engineer; Rengstorf Associates, landscape architect; and Object Space, interior designer.

It is near the UW, shops, entertainment and transit.

Studios and one- and two-bedroom units are designed to cater to young professionals and students. They range in size from 390 to 780 square feet. Rents are $1,250 to $2,780.

Units have large windows, storage, in-unit laundry, and a room divider for privacy in the one-bedrooms.

The architect said the exterior uses modulation, color blocking, Juliet balconies and vibrant color.

Amenities include a rooftop deck, fire pit and barbecue grill. A landscaped courtyard connects to the resident lounge on the first level. There’s also bicycle storage and a maintenance shop.

Lightbox is LEED-silver certified, with electric car-charging stations, quartz countertops and energy-efficient appliances and lighting.
