Mayor Katie B. Wilson will join local leaders and members of the project team this morning to snip the ribbon on an 84-unit affordable apartment building in Ballard.

The eight-story project, called St. Luke’s Apartments, is located at 2035 N.W. 58th St. on the St. Luke’s Episcopal Church property, which is owned by the Episcopal Diocese of Olympia.

Bridge Housing is the developer. The property was designed by Perkins Eastman (formerly VIA Architects) and built by Exxel Pacific.

Construction began in May 2024. The DJC reported in November that the project had received its certificate of occupancy the month prior.

St. Luke’s Apartments provides studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom homes that are affordable to households earning up to 60% of the area median income. Amenities include a community room, bike storage, resident services, shared laundry on each floor, and a rooftop deck and play area. Comprehensive resident services will be provided by FamilyWorks through a grant from UnitedHealth Group.

Expected attendees at today’s ribbon cutting include the mayor, District 6 Councilmember Dan Strauss, President and CEO of Bridge Housing Ken Lombard, and Reverend Canon Britt Olson of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church.

A second apartment building is planned for the St. Luke’s property. That will have 206 units, most of which will be market rate.

St. Luke’s Apartments is the first of two apartment projects set for the St. Luke’s property. A second building is slated to rise at 5710 22nd Ave. N.W., which is directly west from the Phase I property and faces Ballard Commons park.

Security Properties is developing Phase II, which is yet to break ground. The new building will also be eight stories and will have 206 units, most of which will be market rate. Perkins Eastman is the architect. Venture General Contracting is the builder.

The property will include a new 13,500-square-foot custom-designed home for the church. That’s being designed separately by Olson Kundig. The two-level church space will have its own entry on the building’s southwest corner.

Swenson Say Faget is the structural engineer for both buildings.
