Vulcan Real Estate has finished construction on The Martin, a 24-story, 188-unit apartment complex at the northwest corner of Fifth Avenue and Lenora Street.

The Martin is adjacent to Seattle Cinerama, which was called The Martin Cinerama Theatre when it opened in 1963. It is also one block away from Amazon.com’s future 3.3 million-square-foot headquarters.

The Martin’s artwork and fixtures pay homage to the Cinerama and other historic theaters. An installation by California artist Ned Kahn surrounds the above-grade garage with 10,280 hinged panels of perforated stainless steel that sway in the wind.

Units average 940 square feet, which is a little larger than in other new buildings. They were originally designed as condos, with nearly floor-to-ceiling windows, walk-in closets and large bedrooms.

The building has a gym, P-Patch, community room with “chef’s kitchen,” outdoor dining area, conference room and a media room. Residents can reserve a guest room for visitors with a full kitchen, and washer and dryer.

Callison designed the project and Exxel Pacific Inc. is the general contractor. Other team members are Robin Chell Design, interior design; Brumbaugh and Associates, landscape architect; Cary Kopczynski and Co., structural engineer; Coughlin Porter Lundeen, civil engineer.

Vulcan has built more than 5.2 million square feet in 25 office, bio-tech, residential and mixed-use projects. It has 400,000 square feet under construction for Amazon and is planning another 890,000 square feet.
